PADI Enriched Air Nitrox Course in Punta Cana
Take Your Diving to the Next Level
The Enriched Air Diver course, commonly called the Nitrox course, allows you to extend your bottom time and reduce surface intervals by using air with a higher oxygen content than regular compressed air. With less nitrogen absorbed in your body, you can dive longer and explore more during each adventure.
It’s the world’s most popular PADI specialty, and for good reason: no other course changes so much about your diving for so little effort. The only prerequisite is a PADI Open Water Diver certification, or an equivalent from another training organization.
At Grand Bay of the Sea, the course costs $350 and includes two enriched air dives — so you don’t just learn the theory, you feel the difference in the water.
Why Dive with Nitrox?
Nitrox has become one of the most popular specialties among recreational divers thanks to its many benefits. By reducing nitrogen intake, you can spend more time at your favorite dive sites, make multiple dives in a day more comfortably, and feel less tired after diving. It’s especially ideal for exploring deeper reefs, wrecks, or dive sites with multiple levels.
In Punta Cana, those benefits pay off immediately. Nitrox pairs perfectly with our 2-tank and 4-tank fun-dive packages: shorter surface intervals mean less time waiting on the boat between dives, and longer no-decompression limits mean more of the reef on every tank.
The Benefits for Your Diving Experience
Using enriched air lets you maximize your dive time, particularly when exploring areas that require extended bottom time or when you want to fit in more dives without long surface intervals. You’ll notice the difference, especially on multi-day dive trips, where fatigue is reduced, and your underwater time is optimized.
The conditions here reward every extra minute. With water at 26–29°C (78–84°F) year-round and visibility that typically runs 15 to 25 meters, the last thing you want is a dive computer telling you to head up early. Nitrox pushes that moment back — and when a turtle shows up late in the dive, you’ll be glad your plan had more minutes in it.
What You Will Learn in the Course
During the course, you’ll learn how to safely plan and execute dives with enriched air mixtures containing 32% to 40% oxygen. You’ll understand how oxygen exposure affects your body, how to analyze tank contents, and how to adjust your dive computer for Nitrox diving. This knowledge ensures both safety and efficiency on every Nitrox dive.
The two most practical skills are hands-on: analyzing your own tank before every dive and setting your dive computer for the exact mix you’re breathing. By the end of the course, both take less than a minute — and both are habits that mark you as a careful, self-sufficient diver on any boat in the world.
You can complete the knowledge development through PADI eLearning before you arrive, and our instructors teach in English, Spanish, and French.
Training Without Required Dives
One of the advantages of the Enriched Air Diver certification is that it doesn’t require open water dives to complete. Through theory lessons and practical exercises, you’ll gain the skills to confidently dive with Nitrox up to a maximum depth of 40 meters (130 feet). Once certified, you’ll be ready to apply your new knowledge to any dive trip around the world.
At Grand Bay of the Sea, though, we believe the best classroom is the ocean — so our course includes two enriched air dives. You’ll analyze your tank, set your computer, and watch your no-decompression time stretch in real conditions, with an instructor right beside you.
The Gateway to Longer, Better Dives
Whether you’re exploring coral gardens, swimming through a wreck, or spending extended time photographing marine life, diving with Nitrox enhances your experience. With more time underwater and less fatigue afterward, you’ll make the most out of every dive and take your skills to a whole new level.
Certify once and the benefit follows you for the rest of your diving life — on our 2-tank and 4-tank fun-dive packages here in Punta Cana, and on every dive trip you take after that. If you plan to keep diving, this is the specialty that keeps paying you back.
Ready to make every dive count? Certify in Enriched Air Nitrox on your next visit, pair it with a 2-tank or 4-tank package, and enjoy the extra bottom time from your very first tank.
