Wreck Monica

The Monica is a French cargo ship from the 1880s that once transported materials for the construction of the Panama Canal. However, it ventured too close to the Dominican coastline and ran aground on the reef. Today, divers can still see the full propeller, parts of the engine, the boiler, and even construction materials intended for railroad tracks — a piece of 19th-century history resting under the Caribbean. Small, narrow but beautiful caves have formed between the wreck and the reef, sheltering tropical fish and the occasional lobster, and making it a unique site to explore with a camera. The Monica lies at a depth ranging from 5 to 15 meters (50 feet at its deepest) and is located just half a mile from the coast — ideal for both beginner and experienced divers, and one of the easiest wreck dives in Punta Cana.
